Scratch art is created by carefully scratching through a dark surface with a blade to reveal the light layer beneath it. Instead of adding dark lines to white paper, I work in reverse—removing the black surface one small mark at a time. Every highlight, strand of hair, piece of fur and fine detail is created entirely by hand.I particularly enjoy creating pet portraits because I understand how deeply our animals become part of our families. It is an honour when someone trusts me to create a lasting portrait of a cherished companion. Some commissions celebrate the personality of a much-loved pet, while others are created as memorials that preserve an especially meaningful memory.Every custom portrait begins with reference photographs supplied or approved by the customer. I study the subject carefully, discuss the desired composition and make sure the photograph contains enough detail before beginning the artwork. Because every line is created by hand, each finished portrait is a one-of-a-kind original rather than a digitally generated image or automated filter.
